Suntuf Industrial Polycarbonate Roofing

On the job, you need light without the glare.

As farm buildings and dairies age the quality of the light within them often also drops away, making conditions difficult for staff to work safely.

In many buildings older than 15 years clear fibreglass panels were the only option for ensuring a natural lighting source but New Zealand’s tough environment has taken its toll on this compound type.

Weather & Impact Proof

New Zealand’s UV light intensity has played a big part in the decline of fibreglass panel lighting quality over time.

NIWA research indicates over summer UV Index figures can regularly exceed 13, on a scale usually ranking from 1-10, even in southern NZ where UV is less intense. A recent study indicates NZ’s UV levels at their peak are 40% greater than at similar latitudes in the United States.

Early installations of clear fibreglass lacked UV resistance, and many are reaching the end of their useful life. Fibreglass sheet starts to lose its light transparency only three years after installation at a rate of 4% every year after that.

Transparency & Light Transmission

PSP’s polycarbonate resin and a special UV coating co-extruded into the surface ensure 10 years of natural lighting with no decline in light transparency, with 99.9% UV protection against the harmful UV rays.

Only after a decade will a decline begin, but it is only rated at 1% a year.

Rural applications for the Suntuf Industrial sheeting include areas operators spend lengthy periods indoors where high quality natural light is an advantage, but UV exposure is not.

With purpose built calf rearing facilities more common on larger scale dairy operations, the use of open, high stud buildings makes provision of natural light preferable. Calves benefit from the exposure to healthy natural light whilst being reared, and rearers enjoy the airy atmosphere the combination of high stud and natural lighting provides in that environment.

Suntuf Industrial provides a balance between providing natural light and UV protection in farm dairies.

Suntuf Industrial also provides free light, and in farm dairies particularly reduces the amount of electric lighting required. Typically lighting forms 2% of a dairy farm’s electricity demands and Suntuf installation is an opportunity to slice that back while providing a more pleasant work environment.

Design Flexibility

Long sheet runs of up to 7.2m ensure Suntuf Industrial is suitable for larger shed, dairy and barn applications, while a variety of profiles ensure it has a good aesthetic fit with the building’s overall design.

Longevity

To reflect that strength and quality the warranty has been extended to cover 25 years loss of light, and 15 years for breakage and hail damage.
